Fogueira – From Brazil to Dubai

About a week ago I had the pleasure to visit the infamous Fogueira Brazilian Restaurant in Ramada Plaza JBR.

Located on the 35th level with stunning views of Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah, Dubai’s 1st Brazilian Churrascaria offers authentic all-you-can-eat Brazilian barbeque and features endless meat cuts that are served straight to your table; along with traditional appetizers and a salad bar.

Fogueira Restaurant & Lounge

Among the highlights of that night were:

– The professional, yet friendly service, the very attentive waiters who were explaining us the different types of meat served by them and from which you could eat as much as you wanted.

– The playful yet elegant atmosphere (you were called to indicate whether you were ready for more meat or you needed a break, simply by placing in front of you a green or red coaster (green for more, red for break).

Fogueira Restaurant & Lounge

– The live performance of Giselle & Diego with modern and classic Latin tones with their beautiful voices and the brilliant remixes.

GISELLE & DIEGO 4

– Of course the Samba dancers who will mentally transfer you in Rio’s carnival and invite you to dance with them!

IMG_6438 copia

– The fact that our glasses were always full.

As for the food, my well trained meat lovers/friends were amazed by the meat (no wonder why they call Fogueira “the meat lover’s paradise”) and I, as vegeterian, have to say that the alfredo pasta, the mushroom soup, the authentic brazilian cheese breads and fried banana were mouth watering! For dessert, make sure you’ll try the traditional grilled pineapple with cinnamon and the passion fruit mousse (if you like sour desserts) and you’ll have a taste of heaven!

Now the weather is getting better, make sure you’ll reserve a table on the terrace. The view of Marina, JBR and the Palm will take your breath away!

Fogueira Lounge

Thank you Fogueira team for this memorable evening.

Oh and thank you for making me realize what my next travel destination will be. Rio, here I come!

Introducing “Speakeasy”

Speakeasy Bar and Restaurant image

Last night I had the pleasure to be among some of the best lifestyle bloggers in Dubai, at the “Blogger’s Night Out” event the incredible team of Ramada JBR hosted at Speakeasy, the very atmospheric pub that’s been located on the Lower Plaza Lever and has been voted as “Best New Pub 2013” by Time Out Dubai.

After I massively failed at the first Darts mission (yes, there’s an area with darts and jukebox), at least I had the chance to blow off some steam from the long day I had and I moved on to the next mission: “The make your own burger” Mission.

I made a vegetarian one. Super minimal. Well, in this mission I cannot say that i failed, -although i had some serious competitors, adding green apple and other gourmet elements to their burgers-, simply because the taste of the actual burger was so delicious that it really added value to my simple yet yummy vegetarian burger.

The signature J Wellington Wimpy Burger
The signature J Wellington Wimpy Burger

By the end of the second and last mission, the Ramada team and all bloggers had dinner, while the GM of the hotel and the Chef were tasting our burgers in order to announce the winner. Apart from our personal burgers, we had the chance to enjoy an amazing selection of salads (my personal favorite, the one with Avocado and Egg), as well as 3 different types of potatoes (sweet potatoes are a must try!) dipped in tasty sauces and melted cheddar cheese (yes yes RIP diet, but it was oh so worthy!)

Congratulations to the Dart challenge winner Bianca (http://biancadanise.com/) and the Make-Your-Own-Burger Challenge winners Ritu (Fussfree) and Mae (La Petite Dame).

So next time you feel like traveling back in time, Speakeasy is your one and only option: The kind of pub you dream of stumbling across, this ancient-looking brewery-owned boozer, offering a wide selection of drinks, cigars, burgers, grills and entertainment is one of the most authentic pubs in the city.

A big thank you all of you who made this night so special! Ramada team rocks!

Meet Marie and MARKAT ME – Brands for a good cause

Living in Dubai is making you be surrounded by some of the most fashionable people on earth. Only a walk at the mall can bring you back home with a bunch of “shopping steals”. How cool would be to make some space to your closet by giving away some of the pieces you’re not using anymore, whilst you’re also giving back to the society?

Marie Baagoee, a fashionista who wanted to fill the gap of pre-loved brands in Dubai, thought of that and created Markat ME.

Markat ME is the Middle East’s first concept that spreads the joy of fashion by giving back.

DubaiLoving spent some time with this lovely, young entrepreneur and is happy to introduce her to you.

– So, who is Marie and why she chose to live and work in Dubai?

I came to Dubai the first time in 2007 and i just fell in love! This city is sparkling for business, entrepreneurship and it seems like no business idea is impossible here. I always wanted to start my own businesses, so this just seemed like the perfect place for me to live.

IMG_0129

– What inspired you to start Markat ME?

In Denmark we have a lot of similar platforms, that allows you to resell your brands. Its a normal thing to sort your closet every now and then, both to get space but as well to get cash for new shopping adventures. It hurts me when brand new or nearly used items are left in the closet, getting dusty and forgotten. Why not pass it on and let someone else to love it? There are so many great aspects of dealing with secondhand goodies, one is as i just mentioned the waste of a brand new items being forgotten and left alone, but also the environmental aspect. We kill a lot of animals, and waste a lot of chemicals every time we produce new products. Why make all this harm if it’s not even being appreciated and loved? That cow suffered to please your image, so if you change your mind and end up not using the item, at least pass it on to someone who will appreciate and love what it took to produce this specific product!

Another great aspect of secondhand is the fact that it’s off the market. Especially in Dubai, people tend to buy the same things, but here is a change to stand out – to form your own style and identity, even for a good bargain!

So this is how Markat ME started. I wanted to bring this whole subject in the spotlight, in a region who is really developing in the art scene as well as the environmental!

– What are the elements that differentiate Markat ME from the other e-shops?

So to make Markat ME stand out, I was looking into this market, where our members might not need to sell out in order to make cash for new shopping founds, so to make it attractive here, I attached charity! When you upload your items for sale, you not only decide the price yourself, you can also choose to donate a portion of the sale to charity. We have selected four options at the moment, but always welcome more projects to support.

– How would you describe UAE’s women?

I definitely think of business – even though she might be a housewife, women here just tend to care a lot about their look, image and style. I believe the UAE woman is very independent and strong, one who has an opinion and dare to stand out!

– Favorite saying?

Your biggest potential is hidden in your fear.

– Any future plans you would like to share with DubaiLoving?

Yes – We are very excited to be sponsoring a new POP UP concept in Dubai. The first weekend of every month, ‘Designers POP UP Market’ will take place in Urban Bistro, Dubai Media City. We will of course have a live sale of great designers bargains as well as another 20 designers and art crafters will showcase their products! There will be a lot of activities and complementary spa treatments, so please don’t miss out on that!

Besides that, we are open for uploads, sales and charity 24/7 on www.markatme.com 🙂

DubaiLoving and I wish all the best to Marie for her future plans. We’re always glad to see young people with smart ideas to conquer the world! We’ll see you at “Designers Pop Up Market”. 🙂

10 things we love about Bahrain

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

DubaiCat traveled to Bahrain and she sums up the reasons she loved it:

1. Food. Bahrain is all about fresh, quality and cheap street food. You place the order (yes the typical Arab way: you stay in the car and just honk, you get your food and you enjoy it on the way to your destination). Make sure you’ll try Malghoum Samara, Malghoum Mahmood and Jan Burger and of course the ultimate ice-cream with the super fresh cone from Atlanta. Bahrain is famous for the traditional breakfast also. My personal favorite breakfast was the Khobez Joben (bread with cheese) which you combine with Oman chips (lol). On top of the list of the restaurants: Coco’s ! Most probably you’ll have to wait but it’s so worth waiting! Try the salad with the strawberry sauce and the chicken mushroom dish! Also, don’t forget to try the traditional halwa and bring me some on the way back to Dubai.

2. People. For some interesting demographic information, there are about twice as many men as women currently living in Bahrain. There are also more expats living in Bahrain than national citizens. In any case people are nice and smiley, they’re always willing to assist you and they have a positive attitude for life which cheers you up.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

3. Tree of Life. The Tree of Life is a 400-year-old tree that grows in the middle of the desert. Scientists say that its source of sustenance still remains a mystery event now. The tree is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Bahrain and it’s simply gorgeous.

4. Sea. Bahrain is not only one island, but an archipelago of 33 small islands. Each island is connected by bridges, and each region within the country is technically a separate island. Make sure you’ll spend one day at Al Dar Islands where you can spend the day chilling, having shisha by the sea, jet skiing or just sunbathing.

5. Bahrain Word Trade Center. The Bahrain World Trade Center is the world’s first skyscraper that uses wind turbines for clean energy. It is currently one of the most famous buildings in the country because of its unique architecture. It is also the second tallest building in Bahrain (Four Seasons Hotel Bahrain Bay is the third!)

6. Adliya, Manama. What I call the “downtown Manama” with the several art pieces spread all over the small streets and the art galleries which promote the local contemporary artists will make your day!

7. National Museum. The museum is very well done and is housed in a beautiful building on the water. This is the only place you can see a re-created traditional burial mound, complete with skeleton! I found it very nice and informative and it addresses Bahrain ancient and contemporary history. There is also a small gift shop with some historical books and interesting pieces of clothing and jewelery.

8. Bahrain is the most open-minded country within the GCC area. There are minimal restrictions on alcohol, people can receive massages from the opposite sex and clothing standards are more liberal.

9. Souk. Impressively rich souk for such a small country. The market is located in Central Manama. Here you will basically find anything you are looking for. This includes clothes, food (multicultural food), electronics, spices & nuts, souvenirs. Friendly people but very good at bargaining.

10. It’s only 1 hour away from Dubai, it’s a super cheap destination with plenty of flights within the day and it’s a great wake up call to realize that real life is not as perfect and sterilized as Dubai is making us feel. It’s like you’re visiting a big big village with all the cons and pros! Plus it’s they invented the “shisha in the car” activity and it’s definitely a reason to visit them!

It’s just worth visiting. Khalas.

PS: Don’t forget my Halwa on the way back!

The girl who makes our Saturdays beautiful

For those who are lucky enough to have included in their weekly routine some walks to Al Barsha Pond Park as I do, I’m sure you’ve seen a bunch of people twisting, stretching, bending, or as I like to say “dancing” in the sunset under the instructions of a lovely girl with the warm heart and smile.

Me enjoying our Savasana pose
Me enjoying our Savasana pose

The “bunch of people” is me, my friends, families, men, women and everyone who got lucky enough to be informed that there’s a community yoga class in this beautiful location. Soon it’s gonna be also you and your friends.

Let’s now meet the “lovely girl with the warm heart and smile”: Her name is Lakshya, she’s Yoga Instructor, she is incredibly sweet, with a big love for Greece and she has a magical way to make you love yoga.

 barsha

  1. What does Lakshya Yoga stand for?

Lakshya yoga stands for the teachings of traditional Hatha yoga, from the heart. The name Lakshya was given to me by my Guru, meaning happiness as ones ultimate goal. So that goes well in line with all the teachings of yoga and yogic philosophies! Through the platform of Lakshya Yoga, I am here to provide support and guidance in all aspects of Yoga. Offering teachings from the heart that are based on the Vedic Tradition, and come along with Values, Yogic practice, the study of Sanskrit and the use of Mantras and chanting.

  1. What are your yoga classes like?

They are Hatha Yoga classes. We focus on breathing, warming up the body, sun salutations, and then holding various Asanas (postures) for a length of time. With the physical practice we stretch, strengthen and twist, to keep the body fully healthy and supple!

  1. What inspires you to give free community yoga classes in Barsha Park?

I truly believe that yoga is an amazing tool we have been gifted with for our overall wellbeing and it should be available to everyone, despite their backgrounds or financial status. It is a great honor to offer free community classes and give everyone an equal chance to come and practice. More than that, we break the barriers between social groups within Dubai as all kinds of people come together for this. It is so beautiful and precious, this is what I really feel is a “union”- the popular definition of yoga.

  1. What are your other passions?

I have a great passion for learning languages! I have studied Sanskrit for three years, which was an amazing base for studying the scriptures and other ancient texts from India. Nowadays I am also learning Hindi- for me such a useful tool considering 1/6 of the world’s population is Indian- and Greek, just out of my love for Greece.

  1. Where is home for you?

Tough question! I grew up in the Middle East, so in some form this is home for me. In terms of where my heart finds itself most relaxed i would definitely say India. It’s my spiritual home, as mother India always takes me in with open arms and nurtures me in many ways.

  1. What are your favorite travel destinations?

I love Greece. It’s such a beautiful country with a rich culture and history! It would be a dream come true to visit all the many islands there. I also love travelling in Asia, and India of course! My journeys are usually for destinations with rich culture and heritage, as those fascinate me.

  1. Tell us about your upcoming retreats in India!

These are going to be beautiful! We have two retreats, first one from 2-9July and second is from 9-14th of July. They will be in Kerala, which is a beautiful, luscious and green place. We offer daily yoga classes, ayurvedic massages, and the best (non spicy!) home cooked vegetarian meals! These retreats are so relaxing and rejuvenating, and truly a perfect escape from the hot desert-heat here in Dubai!

Thank you Lakshya for making our Saturdays more beautiful, thank you for creating this lovely community and for being there for us constantly smiling and motivating us to “push ourselves a bit further”. I’m glad I’ve met you and I’m part of this. Keep it up and soon we’ll fill Central Park as well!

Introducing Excellency Center

Research showed that about 72% of computer users had neck pain at some point in their life. Guess what? I’m one of them! But I’m not worried anymore cause I’ve found the perfect specialists for that!

One hot Thursday life brought me to the heart of Dubai. I had the longest possible week but my treatment appointment with Excellency Center kept me going.

Conveniently located at the Old Town Island, the Center has been thoughtfully designed to convey the soothing, luxuriant feel of an ultra-modern cocoon. As soon as I walked in Excellency team made me feel so welcome. It took me some time to just admire the amazing interior and then a smiley face approached me asking me if I would like them to offer me something to drink and since there’s this big buzz in the city that they’re offering amazing Freddo Cappuccino, I went for this and I’m glad I did. 🙂

Excellency Centers 26-05-2014 3011

After I had my one to one complimentary session with Dr. Vasilis Mitsis (Physical Medice and Rehabilitation Doctor), he assessed my condition and recommended a tailor-made treatment so we could comfort the postural fatigue coming from the long hours of computer use (buuusted!).

They prepared my private room and Mrs. Meropi Papakonstantinou (Physiotherapist Specialist) immediately made me feel that I was literally in good hands. Don’t expect me to remember the names of the machines, although she took the time to explain me every single detail on how they work and how exactly their use would benefit my body, all I know is that the session took more than an hour and the combination of the machines with her magic hands relaxed my muscles to the max.

Excellency Centers 26-05-2014 3051

As all good things in life come to an end, so my Excellency Center experience did. Before that though Mrs. Meropi stayed with me and showed me step by step some exercises I should do every time I feel my neck heavy.

Excellency Center is Dubai’s latest addition to the physical therapy field. Playing Golf whilst feeding Fish

Last Thursday I had the chance to start my day right in front of the beach, playing golf whilst protecting the environment thanks to Sofitel The Palm.

IMG_2493

Sofitel The Palm, known for its “green” initiatives, is bypassing the conventional grass driving range and looking ahead towards the Arabian Gulf. The luxury resort has launched a new golf experience where the ocean becomes the driving range with yard markers placed in the water so that golfers can mark their progress.

But never fear, as the bay won’t fill up with thousands of golf balls, instead the Ecobioballs are the first and only golf ball in the world which dissolves into fish food. As soon as it is submerged in the water, the internal core that comprises of fish food gets released into the water.

_DSC0493

This new golfing experience adds to the numerous resort recreational activities for hotel guests, local residents and team building events, all while enjoying an environmentally affable sport. The hotel utilises this exciting green activity to entertain its guests with fun and environmentally conscious competitions and challenges such as hole-in-one contests.

IMG_2491 _DSC0497

Recreation Manager, Eugene Swart explains more: “The Ocean is the perfect expanse in which to drive golf balls, and supports our living values of environmental sustainability through Ecobioballs. So while you’re enjoying a challenging game of golf, you are also providing food for our local marine life. Even if you’re not a golfer or the next US Masters champion, you can still enjoy a fun game of golf by the beach.”

Main Pool Image 1

Sofitel The Palm, nestled within the tranquil groves of the Palm Jumeirah and set amidst an idyllic Polynesian setting gives guests a unique experience. Guests also get to interact with some of the eco-friendly initiatives such as the live green wall. Organically framing the resort, a lush green and vibrant environment of stunning vertical gardens offer guests a constant green reminder during their stay.

IMG_2531 IMG_2529

Giving a sport a new more environmentally friendly dimension, with a great view of Dubai Marina’s skyline, with the guidelines of Sofitel’s friendly staff? We say yes!

PS: I would really like to thank Adam for his patience to teach me, as I was the only …cat in the group and it took me a bit longer to learn how to hold the golf stick (which apparently has a different word to describe it and I don’t remember it)! Hopefully next time I’ll visit you I’ll be able to use it as well! hehe

Pleasure to meet my co-players Hydar (MyDubaiMyCity) , Fadi (Aventurati Nomad Blog), Sofiane Morouce (Le Chameau Fute) and Paul (UAE Golf Online)

Sofitel The Palm, keep up and the “green” initiatives and the great work! See you soon!

Meet Bianca Mozzarella & Co – Not just an Italian Restaurant

Maria finished her job some nights ago and she invited her girlfriends to this beautiful new restaurant in Box Park for a “proper Italian dinner”. Her friends accepted the invitation, and they had no idea that soon they’d found themselves in Italian paradise!

Meet Bianca Mozzarella&Co

IMG_1349 (2)

The first impression (which they say is also the last) was great. A mandarin tree in the middle of the venue surrounded by cute, white tables with fresh flowers on them made us feel like we were visiting a friend’s garden. A swing instead of a chair caught my eye and we immediately went for this table.

IMG_1369       IMG_1366

The people were happy, very polite and as soon as I opened the menu and I saw a note saying “please be kind with us, we’re still on a soft opening” they got me! There’s nothing I appreciate more than honesty.

IMG_1356 IMG_1353

We had the chance to talk to Francesco, the Marketing Manager, who shared some information about the place with us with such love and passion:

“We grew up in Naples, the home of Mozzarella, where two generations of our family became famous for their production of buffalo mozzarella  and other dairy products. To continue our legacy, we decided to introduce the rest of the world to the authenticity of Italian mozzarella and other dairy products by opening our very first restaurant: Bianca Mozzarella&Co named after our grand-grandmother.”

IMG_6623   IMG_6756

The menu is a reflection of their deep dedication to quality, craftsmanship and excellence and comprised of highly selected ingredients, with en emphasis on organic and P.D.O. raw materials. Our personal favorite dishes: Parmigiana di Melanzane for appetizer, Spaghetti alla Nerano, the light dish from Amalfi coast with zucchini, basil and Parmesan shavings or Cotoletta Milanese for the meat lovers and of course the mouth-watering signature Bianca Cake. Yummi!  Don’t forget to drink espresso, made the authentic Italian way!

IMG_1364    IMG_1307

Soft opening or not, the service was great, the staff was amazing and the food was….. well enough said. You’ll try for yourselves!

Bianca Mozzarella&Co… Arrivederci!

#DubaiLoving fans… Buon Appetito! 🙂
